Overton breaks out broom in Ultimate stop at Cherokee

Brandon Overton wired Sunday night’s ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series event at Cherokee Speedway to snare the $7,500 top prize. The triumph marked the 11th of the season for the driver of the Wells Motorsports No. 76 Crossfit Overton/ Allstar Concrete/ Longhorn Chassis by Wells/ Clements Racing Engine-powered Super Late Model in Victory Lane twice over the weekend.

“On Saturday night, we tried everything that we could but came up a little bit short. Our only hope to pass Randy (Weaver) was for him to mess up, but he never did, so we took second and moved onto Sunday at Cherokee. At Cherokee things went perfectly the whole night, and we got another win,” Overton noted. “This Wells and Sons Motorsports team is something special, and I’m just the lucky guy who gets to drive. We’re looking forward to going after a pair of big wins in West Virginia this coming weekend.”

With Mother Nature altering his original plans, Brandon Overton and the Wells and Sons Motorsports team visited Dixie Speedway (Woodstock, Ga.) on Saturday afternoon to kick off his Memorial Day racing weekend with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals. With the second-fastest qualifying effort in his group behind Austin Horton, positioning him fourth on the starting grid for the $4,053-to-win A-Main, Overton clawed forward two spots in the 40-lapper to register a runner-up finish. He trailed Randy Weaver to the checkers with Austin Horton, Dale McDowell, and Zack Mitchell rounding out the Top-5.

On Sunday at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) for the Ultimate Southeast Series-sanctioned Mike Butler Memorial, Brandon locked into the pole for the feature after topping the speed charts in time trials.

Leading wire-to-wire in the 50-lap affair, Overton cruised to his 11th win of the season over Brent Dixon, Derrick Ramey, Ross Bailes, and Trent Ivey. His ninth career series triumph was worth $7,500.
