Starks Opening Season This Weekend With USCS Series Doubleheader in Carolinas
Inside Line Promotions – PUYALLUP, Wash. (April 1, 2019) – The season begins this weekend for Trey Starks as Gobrecht Motorsports ventures to the East Coast for a USCS Series doubleheader.
The team will compete on Friday at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C., and on Saturday at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C. First, Starks will participate in a test session on Wednesday at Carolina Speedway.
“It’s been a super long offseason for me it feels like,” he said. “It’s probably the longest offseason I’ve had in my 10 years of racing sprint cars. We’ve been so busy and focused on work at home I haven’t had time to think about it. Being out here (in Charlotte) and working on our cars the last few days has me itching to get racing.”
Starks has been successful at both tracks. He was victorious at Carolina Speedway in 2016 after posting a runner-up result during his debut in 2015. Starks is undefeated in two career starts (October 2015 and October 2016) at Cherokee Speedway.
“We’re going to two cool tracks,” he said. “These are Jeff McCall’s home tracks and he knows them very well. We’ve been fortunate to get some laps at both. I think we have a really good shot at success this weekend. All the cars are ready so I think it’ll be a good weekend.”
This weekend offers an opportunity to knock the rust off before the season opener at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, the following weekend.
“The point of this weekend is to get back going again before we jump out and tackle Knoxville,” Starks said. “We get to make some laps at a couple of tracks and get the cars shaken down. We’re all really excited to get the season started.”
